1. Asking a table
“Goedenmiddag/Hallo.” = Good afternoon, hello. Other ways of saying hello include: Goedendag (good day), goedenavond (good evening)
“Mag ik een tafel voor één/twee/drie/vier/vijf/zes/zeven/ acht/negen/tien?” = May I have a table for one/two/three/four/five/six/seven/eight/nine/ten (people)?
“Ik heb (niet) gereserveerd.” (The waiter may ask "heeft u gereserveerd?" which means > did you reserve a table?) = I did (not) reserve.
“Heeft u de menukaart?” = Do you have the menu?
2. Ordering Foods and Drinks
“Voor mij graag…” = I'll have (graag = please)...
(Rode/witte) wijn/cola/koffie/spa blauw/rood
(Red/white) wine/cola/coffee/non sparkling water/sparkling water
Het menu van de dag = the menu of the day
(If you're pointing at a menu): Voor mij deze graag. = I'll have this one please.
“Dat was alles.” = that's all.
3. Waiter asking questions? Answer like this
The waiter may come back to your table and ask "hoe smaakt het?" = how's the food?
(waiter) Hoe smaakt het eten?
(you) Heel goed! / Goed, maar …
very good! / Good, but...
Te weinig zout / een beetje flauw.
not enough salt
De biefstuk is nog koud/te rood.
The steak is still cold/too red/raw.
4. Paying the bill
“Mag ik de rekening alstublieft?” = May I have the bill please?
“Ik wil graag contant/met pin betalen.” = I'd like to pay cash/with pin.
“Accepteert u creditcard?” = Do you accept creditcard?
“Hou het wisselgeld.” = Keep the change.
“De bon alstublieft.” = The receipt/bill please.
“Tot ziens!” = Goodbye!
