In today's lesson, we're going to look at basic introduction skills.
- Jezelf voorstellen (introducing yourself)
- Iemand aanspreken of iets vragen (speak to someone or ask something)
- Antwoorden/bedanken (giving an answer/saying thanks)
1. Jezelf voorstellen
A: Hallo, mijn naam is (naam). | Hallo, mein naaaam is (naaam).
Hello, my name is (name).
B: Hallo, ik heet (naam), aangenaam. | Hallo, ik heejt (naaam), aanchùnaaam.
Hello, I am named (name), pleasure to meet you/nice to meet you.
-> I am named -> my name is
2. Walking up to someone with a question
Pardon. = Excuse me. (Excuseer mij)
Meneer/mevrouw, mag ik (u) iets vragen? | Mùneejr/mùvrauw, mach ik (u) iejts vraagùn?
Sir/Madam, may I ask (you) something?
Answers:
Ja. = Yes
Natuurlijk. = Of course.
Nee. = No
Ik heb geen tijd. = I have no time -> I don't have time.
Possible questions you can ask:
Waar is het station? | Waaar is hèt statstijon?
Where is the station?
Waar zijn de taxi's? | Waaar sein dù taxies?
Where are the cabs?
Hoe kom ik daar/hier? | Hoe com ick daaar/hierr?
How come I there/here? -> How do I get there/here?
3. Saying thanks
Bedankt. | Bùdanktt = Thanks
Dankuwel | Dankùwèl. = Thank you (older person).
Dankjewel | Dankjùwèl. = Thank you (younger person/same age)
Bedankt voor het helpen. | Bùdankt voor hèt hèlpùn. = Thanks for the helping -> Thanks for helping.
4. Saying goodbye
Tot ziens. | Tot siens. = Bye/see you again (tot weerziens -> untill we meet again)
Dag. | Dach. = Bye (/hello, day)
Vaarwel. | Vaarwèl. = Goodbye (forever)
